Sequel to the stands expressed by the leadership of NANS ZONE A and the NAKATSS in our joint press conference held on the 18th of April, 2016 at Arewa House Kaduna, his Excellency Mal. Nasiru El-Rufa'i delegated the Hon. Commissioner of Education and other powerful staff of the Ministry to meet and conduct a preliminary sitting with the duo leadership of the unions to hear the grievances raised at our joint Press Conference , which was later followed by a sitting with the Governor himself at the State house Kaduna yesterday at 9:00am and also to cap it all the ministry summoned all the Heads of the state's owned tertiary institutions where we met and deliberated extensively at office of the Commissioner today. The students leaders have after series of deliberations and consultation agreed on the following resolution:
1. On the issue of scholarship: we are made to understand that plan are already on the way to pay the students their outstanding scholarships and the government have in its bid to promote academic excellence resolve to be paying a mouthwatering amount of N100,000 to all students with a CGPA of 2.5 and above while those previously receiving 9,000 for Arts and Humanities courses will be increased to 35,000 and Science students that are previously been paid 15,000 will start receiving 50,000 respectively and this will be enacted in the shortest time possible.
2. On school fees increment: we are made to understand that the government have not increase it in any of the state's owned institution hence the complaint at some quarters is from the fees payable to the various regulatory agencies coordinating the examinations and certification of some courses within the institutions in question.
3. On the state of the state's owned institutions: the governor have constituted a nine man committee under the leadership of the state's commissioner of Education to come up with practical ways on how the government can improve the existing facilities and overhaul the entire education sector within the state.
4. On students marginalization: the governor promise to create time to be meeting with the students from time to time and also an office for the students will be created under the Ministry of Education for the students to serve as a link between the government and the students constituency.
Lastly we appealed to our students to exercise patience while we give the government benefit of doubt to see if it will fulfill its promises as revealed to us and to also remain law abiding in the pursuit of their various academic endeavors while we appealed to the government to as a matter of necessity translate its words into action as failure to fulfil this promises is tantamount to waging a war on the students constituency and that Will make us to employ the use of the third C of Aluta. Thank you and God bless our struggle for we are not struggling for ourselves but rather for the collective betterment of the entire Nigerian Students.
In conclusion we acknowledge the high sense of maturity exhibited by the state government in employing dialogue as a tool for resolving disputes.
