Sequel to the stands expressed by the leadership of NANS ZONE A and the NAKATSS in our joint press conference held on the 18th of April, 2016 at Arewa House Kaduna, his Excellency Mal. Nasiru El-Rufa'i delegated the Hon. Commissioner of Education and other powerful staff of the Ministry to meet and conduct a preliminary sitting with the duo leadership of the unions to hear the grievances raised at our joint Press Conference , which was later followed by a sitting with the Governor himself at the State house Kaduna yesterday at  9:00am and also to cap it all the ministry summoned all the Heads of the state's owned tertiary institutions where we met and deliberated extensively at office of the Commissioner today. The students leaders have after series of deliberations and consultation agreed on the following resolution:
1. On the issue of scholarship: we are made to understand that plan are already on the way to pay the students their outstanding scholarships and the government have in its bid to promote academic excellence resolve to be paying a mouthwatering amount of N100,000 to all students with a CGPA of 2.5 and above while those previously receiving 9,000 for Arts and Humanities courses will be increased to 35,000 and Science students that are previously been paid 15,000 will start receiving 50,000 respectively and this will be enacted in the shortest time possible.
2. On school fees increment: we are made to understand that the government have not increase it in any of the state's owned institution hence the complaint at some quarters is from the fees payable to the various regulatory agencies coordinating the examinations and certification of some courses within the institutions in question.
3. On the state of the state's owned institutions: the governor have constituted a nine man committee under the leadership of the state's commissioner of Education to come up with practical ways on how the government can improve the existing facilities and overhaul the entire education sector within the state.
4. On students marginalization: the governor promise to create time to be meeting with the students from time to time and also an office for the students will be created under the Ministry of Education for the students to serve as a link between the government and the students constituency.
Lastly we appealed to our students to exercise patience while we give the government benefit of doubt to see if it will fulfill its promises as revealed to us and to also remain law abiding in the pursuit of their various academic endeavors while we appealed to the government to as a matter of necessity translate its words into action as failure to fulfil this promises is tantamount to waging a war on the students constituency and that Will make us to employ the use of the third C of Aluta. Thank you and God bless our struggle for we are not struggling for ourselves but rather for the collective betterment of the entire Nigerian Students.
In conclusion we acknowledge the high sense of maturity exhibited by the state government in employing dialogue as a tool for resolving disputes.

NANS, NAKASS kick against Kaduna Religious Bill

By Amos Tauna on April 18, 2016 @dailypostngr
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS),
zone ‘A’, an umbrella body of students studying in
Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi,
Jigawa, Niger and Gombe state respectively, as well as
National Association of Kaduna State Students
(NAKASS), have joined other Nigerians to condemn in
its totality the religious bill before the Kaduna State
House of Assembly.
The executive bill sponsored by the state governor,
Malam Nasir El-Rufai is to among others regulating
religious activities in the state.
But the forum noted that, “We condemned in totality the
religious bill being reviewed by the Kaduna State
Assembly as it is in total contradiction with the right to
practice one’s religion as enshrined in the Nigerian
constitution.”
A joint press conference signed by the Coordinator of
NANS, Zone ‘A’, Comrade Usman Baba and National
President NAKASS, Comrade Umar S. Balarabe titled
“The subjugation and neglect of Nigerian Students in
Kaduna, also disclosed that students of the state have
not received their bursary since the inception of this
administration, a situation they described as
unacceptable.
it said, “Very unfortunate is the overseas scholarship
scheme of the state government which has been limited
to only graduates with 1st class degree honours only.
This we perceive as a deliberate attempt to award the
scholarship to wards of political allies who attend
private or foreign universities only where first class
degrees are up for sale.”
The students demanded that in the interest of peace
that the governor as a matter of necessity appoint a
Special Adviser on student affairs who must be
conversant with students struggles and plights.
“The scholarships, all rights and privileges entitled to
students be fully paid as at when due to motivate the
students to read hard in their various institutions.
“Just as the Governor avails himself for town hall
meetings with other stakeholders, he should also create
enabling environment to meet with the students
constituency.
“The government should review fees of the state owned
institutions to avoid mass action by the students.
”The governor should monitor and ensure the full
implementation of the budgetary allocation to the
education ministry.
“The governor, Malllam Nasir El-Rufai should apologize
to Nigerian students for neglect and condole the
organization over the accidents and trauma the
students went through during the verification exercise,”
the students observed.
According to the student body leaderships, failure of the
government to meet their demand within the next 7
days would further provoke the students as they shall
continue to use all avenue available to them to ensure
the interests of students were fully protected.
The students, however, affirmed their support and
commitment beyond the ordinary to ensure, promote
and protect the unity, progress and growth of Kaduna
State and the nation at large.

BEING THE TEXT OF A JOINT PRESS BRIEFING BY THE LEADERSHIP OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) ZONE A AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NAKASS NATIONAL BODY)

BEING THE TEXT OF A JOINT PRESS BRIEFING BY THE LEADERSHIP OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) ZONE A AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NAKASS NATIONAL BODY) ON THE 15th OF APRIL, 2016 AT AREWA HOUSE KADUNA. TITLE: THE SUBJUGATION AND NEGLECT OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN KADUNA STATE.
PROTOCOLS,
It is with total dismay and a burdened heart that we welcome you to this inauspicious press briefing jointly held by the NANS Zone A and the NAKATSS (NATIONAL BODY). This came up as a result of the neglect, oppression and total disregard of the rights and privileges of the Nigerian students in Kaduna state by His Excellency Mal. Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufa'i.
Being the voice of the voiceless, vanguard of the oppressed and the custodians of the sacred trust of Nigerian students, our position annd resolution to address the press was borne out of several meetings held by the students union leaders and stake holders across the tertiary institutions in Kaduna state, we want to bring to the notice of His Excellency that Nigerian students in kaduna state played a vital and responsible role during the last general elections that produced him as the governor of the state by not allowing themselves to be used as political thugs to cause mayhem that would end up discrediting the electoral process. We as an organization monitored the election at our various campuses and further ensured that our students used as electoral officials by INEC are not bought over to rig the elections, we did not stop there as we also ensured that we mobilized our students to vote massively for El-rufa'i and turn down the Dasuki billions.
It is based on aforementioned role of our to ensure that the election was successful and to a greater extent violent free that we feel highly betrayed and our constituency neglected by the incumbent governor.
Without mincing words, all effort of the duo leadership to have an audience with the Governor proves abortive as he utterly refused to grant /approve all letters sent to him to sit with us, listen and address our problems as a father, true democrat and a leader he portrays himself. Instead the Governor has been very draconian in his policies as seen in the recent increment in the school fees of the state owned institutions even though He the Governor in the guise of making education looks accessible to all made application forms free for all aspirants, what use and benefit will it be that after gaining admission our parents cannot afford to pay the tuition fee and facilities at this institutions are inadequate.
It is worthy of clarification that since the inception of this administration, the students of Kaduna state have not receive their scholarships even after the Governor subjected them to untold hardship of biometric data capturing. This process SAW and lead to the incapacitation of some of our students and several others incurred various degrees of injuries due to road accident, yet the government kept spending huge amount of money into billions in his highly criticized jamboree policy of school feeding program.
Very unfortunate is the overseas scholarships scheme of the state government which has been limited to graduates with first class only, this we perceive as a deliberate attempt to award the scholarships to ward's of political allies who attends private or foreign universities where first class degrees are up for sale and affordable to them only and the recent move to exempt Diploma and NCE students from benefiting from the state  scholarship. The Governor has still not deem it fit and timely to appoint SA Students Affairs 10 months into his administration to be an intermediary between the students and the government in a bid to addressing our plight, since the ministry of NGO and students affairs which students do channel their request for assistance to government and lias with government in organizing workshops and seminar for sanitizing and enlightening students against social vices and promote moral uprightness is no longer functional.
In lue of the above and in the interest of peace,we demand that:
1.The Governor should as a matter of necessity appointments a special Adviser on students affairs who must be a comrade and well conversant with the students struggle to be meeting with students and reporting directly to the Governor.
2.The Scholarships, all rights and privileges entitled to students be fully paid as at when due to motivate the students.
3.Just as the Governor avail himself for town hall meeting with other stakeholders,he should also create enabling environment to meet with the students' constituency too.
4.The government should review the fees of the state owned institutions to avoid mass action by the students.
5.The governor should monitor and ensure the full implementation of the budget tary allocation  to the education ministry. 6.Lastly,the governor Mal.Nasir Elrufai should apologize to Nigerian Students for neglect and condole the organization over the accidents and trauma the students went through during the validation exercise . Failure of the government to meet our demands, within the next 7days, will further provoke the students; as such we shall continue to use all avenues available to us to ensure the interest of our students is full protected. Finally, we affirm our support and commitment beyond the ordinary to ensure promote and protect the unity, progress and growth of kaduna state and our dear nation                                       COMR USMAN BABA coordinator, NANS ZONE A  COMRADE.UMAR S.BALARABE  NAKATS NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Importance of Sports in Education

As the saying in English goes, “All work and no Play
makes Jack a Dull boy”. It has been forgotten that
academic learning and sports education complement
each other. They resemble the two sides of the same
coin. If sports education is carried out accompanied
with the academic curriculum, the over-all personality of the student is increased to quite an extent. The
qualities of the leadership, sharing, team spirit and
tolerance are learnt from sports. Sports education not only teaches the students to
maintain the physical stamina, but also the habit of
obedience, discipline, the determination to win, will
power, etc. The power of reasoning, mental
development, vocational specialization comes from the
academic education of the students. Therefore sports education along with the academics result in the all-
round development of the students. Now-a-days the system of education makes the
students stress more on their mental development and
completely rejects the physical activities. The overall
outcome of this is that the developing groups of
graduates and professionals have weak bodies and
poor physique. The curriculum should include sports, games and physical health education for the all-round
development of the students. Sports education should be introduced in schools and
colleges with complete sincerity. It also justifies the
statement, “a sound mind resides only in a sound
body”. A healthy and strong body is not possible
without sports and physical activities. A good sportsman always learns to obey the rules of
the games and the comments of their superiors. It also
teaches them leadership qualities, maintaining
teamwork and displaying team spirit. Sports education
trains the students to face defeat with a smile and
maintain the humility even in victory. It is the healthiest means of refreshments and recreation. Any person good in one walk of life automatically gains
confidence in others. So if one is good at sports, it
follows that their confidence will spill over to
academics as well. With confidence on their side, they
are motivated to give their best.Sports releases feel-good endorphin which elevates the
mood. A good mood is conducive to performing well in
other fields because there is peace of mind that allows
greater concentration. Sports acts as a great outlet for
frustrations of any kind. Sports education thus should be taken up on war
footing at schools, colleges and educational
institutions for the all-round development of the person
which will help them immensely in their lives ahead.

A TEXT OF WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS ZONE A ON THE LINGERING FUEL SCARCITY, STATE OF THE ECONOMY AND THE CONTINUOUS EPILEPTIC POWER SUPPLY

Protocols,Greatest Nigerian Students
PREAMABLE
The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS ZONE A is the apex and umbrella body of all students in the North-West and three states from the North East saddled with the responsibility of protecting the rights of the students and championing their yearnings and aspirations
OUR STAND
AS the economic situation drives deep welts into the
flesh of Nigerians, there is a growing air of melancholy
and despair as the Federal Government appears lost for
options to bring succour to the people in the near future.
The economy is biting hardest in the areas that impinge
directly on the people’s material and social wellbeing,
with steep drops in the supply of electricity and
petroleum products, thus threatening the resilience and
ability of Nigerians to survive. Both sectors are
undergoing some of the worst and most prolonged
stretches of scarcity.
For instance, in March 2016, power supply dropped to
unprecedented low levels between 1,580 megawatts and
2,841 megawatts just before the Easter holidays, barely
hours after President Muhammadu Buhari had promised
to add 2,000 more megawatts into the national grid by
the end of this year while aiming to top off to 10,000
megawatts by 2019.
Most parts of the country have endured lack of power
supply in the past three months, and yet the Federal
Government supported plans by the electricity
distribution companies to jerk up prices in spite of poor
services; an action that brought Labour and civil society
groups to the streets in protest about two weeks ago.
Usually, when power supply gets nasty, most citizens
turn to their generating sets for comfort, which means
sinking a large portion of their income on petroleum
products, such as petrol and diesel. The situation was
compounded, however, by the scarcity of petroleum
products, which has also held sway on and off for over
four months.
The fuel scarcity is blamed chiefly on the inability of
independent marketers to raise foreign exchange to
import fuel due to the strict policies of the Central Bank
of Nigeria (CBN) to protect the Naira and the nation’s
foreign reserves.
The careless talk of the Minister of State for Petroleum
Resources and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Ibe
Kachikwu, that he did not have a magic wand to restore
full supply within the immediate future, sparked angry
calls for his resignation.
The fact that the Ministries of Petroleum Resources and
Power are manned by President Buhari/Kachikwu and
Babatunde Fashola, who operate at the highest level of
executive function of the Federal Government makes this
bout of petroleum and power scarcity seem beyond the
capacity of the Federal Government to grapple with.
We demand that the Buhari government does something
to alleviate the plight of Nigerians. It must come up with
solutions as soon as possible. This is the time to
translate the “change” that the people voted for negative to positive change.
Nigerians need immediate relief, not apologies or flippant
talk from those in leadership.
In addendum we wish to categorically state and reaffirmed our support and solidarity to the various stands taking by other Zones of the association and we are calling on the National Secretariat to as a matter of urgency start a National campaign on condemnation of the lingering fuel scarcity and the unending problem of epileptic power supply which has in no doubt putting a higher degree of uncertainty in the survival of Academic activities in the entire Nigerian federation.
Much as believe in the use of dialogue as the best option to settle our grievances, the use of the three C's of Aluta notwithstanding as we will not hesitate to mobilize teeming Nigerian students whom are already fed up with the lackadaisical  approach of the government to this National issues to converge and pull this government down as Nigerians still reserves the inalienable right to hire and fire public officials.
Aluta Continua, Victoria ascerta.
